Cherokee Strip Museum boasts one of the best collections of pioneer exhibits and Indian art and artifacts in Oklahoma. 901 14th Street. (580)-327-2030.


Northwestern Oklahoma State University Museum houses one of the top taxidermic bird collections in the United States and also has natural history exhibits, fossils, and Indian artifacts. NWOSU, Jesse Dunn. (580)-327-1700.


Alva Municipal Airport Museum provides an interesting look into the past with a section on the World War II prisoner of war camp formerly located in Alva, along with other historical aspects of the town. South of City. (580)-327-2898.


Sod House Museum is the only actual sod house still standing that was built by a homesteader. Built in 1894, the house was acquired by the Oklahoma Historical Society in 1963. They have preserved and restored it to the original condition. It is located 21 miles south of Cherokee.
